It is my pleasure to welcome you to Riyadh for the 10th annual meeting of the Saudi Association of Neurological Surgery (SANS) during the period from 1 to 3 March 2016. The theme of the meeting is “A decade of SANS: Towards a brighter tomorrow”. While we cherish our past, we plan on advancing our knowledge and expertise to provide the best service to our patients.
The annual SANS meeting is one of the largest neurosurgery meetings in the Middle East and is the largest in the region. Following the success of our last Annual Meeting (9th SANS Annual Meeting), which was attended by over 1000 persons from both local and international centers, we are looking forward to more successful events. SANS collaborated with local and international neurosurgery societies to enhance the opportunities of collaboration and make exchange of knowledge and expertise easier.
Education has been of paramount importance to SANS during the last decade. The Scientific Committee for this year is formed by well-recognized and qualified neurosurgeons from around the country. An exciting and powerful program is being prepared and is distributed in five days. Don’t miss the two days of Pre-conference Courses that include well-prepared cadaver and surgical skill workshops supervised by the masters in the field.
During the meeting we will explore research avenues and opportunities. The 3 days program will include cutting edge research in neurosurgery subspecialties. Local experience is particularly valued and it demonstrates regional differences in neurosurgery practice. SANS encourages medical students and neurosurgery residents to present their work. Special forums and competitions are planned to discuss their research and encourage new ideas
We look forward to seeing you in SANS 2016. Reserve the date, we will make your participation worth the time and effort.
Two-thousand-sixteen marks a significant mile stone in the age of our thriving society. This year’s conference is the fruit of a decade of hard work, commitment and dedication of many souls who went beyond the extra mile to establish our society and help institute its annual conference as well as its numerous scientific and public events.
Hindsight shows us how Allah has blessed us with a very bright yesterday full of achievements and accomplishments. This was manifest in the plentiful SANS’ scientific activities and events over the years that served propagate neurosurgical sciences at all levels as well as bring all of our country’s neurosurgeons, as well as many other neuroscience health workers together.
During the past decade, the SANS annual conference congregated neurosurgeons and neuroscientists from all walks of life; from large and small, central and peripheral, and secondary and tertiary hospitals, from populous and not so populous cities, from academic and non-academic institutions that are in Saudi Arabia and from the world around us. This was to ensure that we all learn from each other, help one another, speak a common language and have aliened objectives.
In order to do so; we designed this year’s conference as follows: We divided the meeting into several mini-symposia, debates and sessions addressing different hot topics that concern our region. A good chance was also offered to our trainees and young neurosurgeons to share their scientific work in several abstract sessions. Because of our duty towards our trainees we newly added to our conference the topic of career and fellowship planning in government, academic and private sectors. Pre-conference hands-on and didactic workshops were also planned. Alongside the rich programs of the conference and pre-conference courses there would be a student research competition in addition to public education fair.
As we conclude one decade and inaugurate a new one, we in this conference have a magnanimous goal. We should all plan to work hard and persevere through all challenges and hurdles together towards a brighter tomorrow for our society, our members, our community and above all, our patients.
